„Factors such as mould and damp in buildings can affect not
only the health of the building, but especially the health of those
who live within them. More than 1½ times as many Europeans
have poor health when living in an unhealthy building. Today
one in six Europeans say that they are living in unhealthy
buildings, i.e. buildings that have damp, a lack of daylight,
inadequate heating during the winter or overheating problems.”
Healthy Home Barometer 2017
The aim of the competition is to encourage thinking about future architecture that has a positive impact on both physical and mental well-being. Housing has a particular need for a good and healthy indoor climate as it promotes wellbeing as well as reducing the risk of diseases.
The vision for this competition is to set new standards for future living. It is based on the Active House principles of buildings that give more than they take – to children, adults, the environment and their surroundings. The aim is a healthy indoor climate where people learn to live in harmony with nature and without a negative impact on the environment.
